Borealis targets appliances with high gloss PP

In its first showing at the Plast show, Borealis launched a new PP moulding grade aimed at replacing ABS for fascias and other moulded parts in the appliances sector.

Borcom BG055AI is said to be the first PP to match the gloss and surface finish of ABS, which is usually used in appliance fascias. The company is claiming lower material cost plus a 6% reduction in cycle time.

"There is a difference in shrinkage but the cost advantages are enormous when compared with ABS," said Gianni Avalle, Borealis appliance market development engineer. "You could replace the existing mould and get pay back in one year."
