German cable maker Kromberg & Schubert GmbH has unveiled plans to set up a new production facility in Krusevac, in Serbia’s central part, reports local news site SeeNews.com.

The German company says it “focuses on the development and production of complex wiring systems for the automotive industry.” The product groups in its plastics engineering segment include plastic components, overmouldings, mountings, and elastomer parts, according to data released by Kromberg & Schubert. Under the plan, the investment is to create about 1,200 new jobs, and it is scheduled to be completed in 2017. Once the factory is launched, Kromberg & Schubert is to gradually increase the factory’s workforce to some 4,000 employees within a period of five years. The amount of the planned investment was not disclosed by the manufacturer.

Krusevac is located about 187 km from the country’s capital Belgrade.

The German firm was set up in 1906, and it owns production facilities in some 30 locations worldwide, operated by a global workforce of more than 35,000 employees. These include subsidiaries in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania and Macedonia. Outside the EU, Kromberg & Schubert has a presence in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Tunisia, South Africa, Botswana, the UAE, as well as China, where it operates two joint ventures.

The German company says that its facilities are ISO 9001, 14001 and 16949 certified.
